Maggie Kropf

Hi everyone! My name is Marguerite Kropf, but you can call me Maggie! I am a rising Sophomore from Ozark, Missouri! Currently, my major is undeclared, because I simply love learning about everything right now! However, my favorite courses have encouraged me to think outside the box and foster connections between different subject areas.

At Furman, you can usually find me on a lake walk or sitting in the sun on the library steps pretending to do homework (I’m usually talking!) I’m also involved in FUSAB, Greek Life, Furman Bee Club, FUOC, and I’m a tour guide (best job ever!!) My first year at Furman cultivated so much growth within me as a student, leader, and friend; I can’t wait to see what the next three years have in store.

When I first heard about this MayX, my ears instantly perked up. Growing up puzzles were a cornerstone (I even wrote a college essay about the role puzzles have played in my life!) Physical puzzles, word puzzles, New York Times games (Connections is my favorite), escape rooms, math puzzles, and anything that challenged me to think critically, was something that I would find to tease my brain and pass time. Codebreaking and ciphers are no exception! I’m very curious to learn about the math behind ciphers. Many of my favorite books and movies revolve around codebreaking and the people behind the codes. I am thrilled by the opportunity to have hands-on engagement with the history of codebreaking in the magnificent city of London!

In London, I am excited to step into Bletchley Park to learn about code breaking and be in the presence of the place that changed the world as we knew it and went down in history books. I am ecstatic to explore the streets of London while sipping tea and shopping. I am also excited to see the White Cliffs of Dover and take in a different scenery from the city center! Two of my favorite movies of all time are Notting Hill and Love Actually; I would love to stroll down the colorful streets of this famous neighborhood and witness the magic. This will be my first time in London and I’m counting down the days until we embark!

For now, Cheerio!
